On January 6, Himadri Das, an employee of Goodwill Logistics, reported that Rs 61,000 was stolen from his bag after it was cut open while transporting the money. He had collected the cash from an office near Chandni Market and was on his way back when the alleged theft occurred. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Bowbazar Police Station (Case No. 06/2025) under Section 303(2) BNS, relating to the theft.
During the investigation, Das was questioned at the Office of Watch Sec, where his statements began to appear inconsistent. After further interrogation, Das admitted to misappropriating the cash. He confessed that the theft was fabricated to cover up his actions.
As a result of his confession, a search was conducted at his residence, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bally Police Station in Howrah. Police recovered Rs 40,000 in cash, along with the self-cut bag that had been previously reported as tampered with. Both items were seized and will be used as evidence in the case.
The charges in the case were amended following his confession. The initial Section 303(2) BNS was changed to Section 316(4)/248(a) BNS, reflecting the new findings. Himadri Das will be presented in court on January 8, for further legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are continuing their work to finalize the case.
